A small investment that makes a huge difference!

Living in Utah, I experience scorching hot summers and freezing cold winters. And while I could just suffer through the extremes, I prefer to workout and train in a more temperature-friendly environment. One of the simplest ways to do this is with a fairly quick and easy install of garage door insulation.
You don’t want anything too heavy on the garage door or it will compromise the motor and lifting mechanism, which is why I chose a reflective foam core insulation kit. This lightweight kit creates a radiant barrier with an outer foil layer, closed foam insulation, and a white vinyl interior for appearance. I also chose this specific kit because of the excellent, high-quality double sided tape included.

Check out my installation here:
As you can see in my video, I opted to cut each panel individually in order to fill the gaps and ensure the best fit possible. You can also opt to install over the top of the metal support bars and create an additional layer of air as pictured below. I will likely add this as a second layer in the future in addition to complete insulation for the walls. A project for another day.

With my SOUTH FACING garage door, during the summer the door is extremely hot to touch and turns the garage into an oven. During the winter, the door alone does little to keep out the freezing cold temperatures. Now with this closed-foam insulation, the garage remains a moderate temperature during both seasons, and with the addition of a window AC/heating unit, a comfortable temperature is much easier to maintain. I also use fans to circulate the air during the peak of summer, and an additional space heater during the winter (see product links below).
One day I plan to fully insulate the garage walls, but that’s a project for another day.

Della Portable AC/Heater Window Unit
There are very few units that allow installation with a horizontal-sliding window. I have been very impressed so far with this unit! The AC is far superior to the heating, but it gets the job done.
Radiant Heater – Tripod
On really cold days, this provides a perfect boost to everything mentioned above. It’s also perfect to place right in front of the barbell to warm up the cold metal while I do some warm-ups.
Space Heater
Nothing fancy. Just a plain ceramic space heater to help out the Della heating unit mentioned above.
High Velocity Metal Blade Fan
This is my favorite fan for the garage. It can be placed on the floor or mounted to the wall/ceiling. Because it works so well, I usually keep it on its LOWEST speed setting! Excellent choice right here.
EGO+ Portable Misting Fan
I don’t own this fan, but it is a true WISH LIST item! It runs off of EGO+ batteries, and is a truly portable fan. In addition, it can be used as a MISTING fan with a simple hose-bucket connection. Maybe I’ll get my hands on one this summer or next summer.
I LOVE EGO+ yardcare equipment. My lawnmower, edger, trimmer, and snowblower are all EGO+ brand. I wrote an article about it which you can also check out HERE:
